Enhanced Home Care: Keeping Seniors Happy at Home

ENHCE - Enhanced Home Care For The Elderly

The local library where you check out books. The neighborhood senior center where you play mahjong with friends. The park you visit for your morning walk.

As a senior, staying close to the people and places you’re familiar with can improve confidence, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. But for many, “aging in place” is easier said than done – and that’s where Enhanced Home Care for the Elderly (eHCE) can make a big difference.

A partnership between the Department of Elder Affairs and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, eHCE supports resource-limited seniors with up to $6,000 in essential tools, technology and home modifications that empower them to age in place safely and with dignity.

What Does Enhanced Home Care Mean for You?

As we get older, it can be harder to make it up the stairs to the front porch … manage pills … or keep track of chronic health conditions like diabetes. And for those living alone, a sudden fall or medication mix-up can be life-threatening.

To overcome those challenges, eHCE focuses on low-cost, high-impact interventions that create lasting benefits – especially for older adults who would otherwise be at risk of moving to an assisted living facility or nursing home.

Through the program, eligible seniors can access up to $6,000 in:

  • Home modifications, such as a no-slip ramp or shower grab bar.
  • Fall detection or door opening detection alerts.
  • Medical monitoring devices that track vitals, blood pressure or glucose.
  • Accessible smart home devices, such as vacuums, thermostats, or doorbells.
  • Other high-impact interventions that support independence.

Unlike traditional home care programs, eHCE does not include long-term services such as meals, housekeeping, or personal care.

Am I Eligible for ENHCE?

You may be eligible for eHCE if you are:

  • 60 years old or older, and
  • either enrolled in Florida Medicaid or at risk of nursing home placement, based on a case manager assessment.

Do you think eHCE may be a good fit for you or a loved one? The next step is to contact the state’s Elder Helpline at 407-450-7375, where your phone representative can provide more information, answer questions, and put you in touch with your county’s local provider.

Aging in Place: It Takes a Community

Everyone deserves to age with dignity and independence, and everyone deserves to be safe and comfortable in their own home. Achieving that goal is a community effort.

eHCE is a program created by the state of Florida through the Department of Elder Affairs and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Services and assessment are provided through government-approved agencies: Aging Matters in Brevard County, the Osceola Council on Aging in Osceola County, and Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) in Seminole and Orange Counties.
