SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is a statewide volunteer program that offers seniors, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers free, unbiased counseling on Medicare, prescription drugs, and other health insurance matters.
The SHINE SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) Program empowers and assists Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education.
These important programs are in need of volunteers in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Brevard counties!
SHINE utilizes the support of trained volunteer counselors to assist seniors with questions about health care coverage, claims, medical plans, prescription drug plan comparisons, and assistance in Long Term Care options and planning.
You can be part of an outstanding team of volunteers that changes the lives of seniors! For many people, the Medicare system may be complicated and intimidating. As a SHINE volunteer you will be trained to help Medicare beneficiaries make the best decisions for their needs. You will play a role in saving the aging and disabled populations money and decreasing their stress!
There are many advantages to becoming a SHINE volunteer. After receiving training from the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, volunteers are well-positioned to serve their communities by educating others about health insurance choices to benefit themselves and their loved ones.
